Interesting

  1. I have not seen this mentioned yet. It would be interesting to see what kind of responses you get to questions or comments.
  2. I have added it to the wiki. See ADA - Chat (Wiki Link).

How to keep chat going

Main Post:

I tend to have a few people hop in my streams (just hit my highest of 12 this past week) but I feel like I can’t keep chat flowing with engaging questions and stories on the fly

So I wanted to see if anyone had tips or ideas on how to keep the conversation going while playing games and keeping those people interested.

I would also like to mention that I tend to lean into making people laugh on stream so I was wondering if prepping some stupid dad jokes would be of any help too 😆

Thank you all for the help ahead of time!!!

Hi, I have some tips but they might not fit your thing, so take from it what might work for you!

My rule of thumb is to talk at least every 10-15 seconds. When I'm with low viewers or mainly lurkers I'm basically thinking out loud or explaining why I do certain things in the game I'm playing.

For engagement with new chatters: pretend you're on a first date and you're SUPER into them. You want to know where they're from, which games they like, if they had a good day, how they ended up at your stream, all of that. And take every opportunity they give you to tell something about yourself in return. Thats how they get to know you while also feeling like you're willing to give them that personal attention.

For chatters that came back: try to take mental notes of what they said the day before. You were tired yesterday? Did you end up getting some rest? Work was tough last time you were here, has it been nicer today? Last week your sister had her birthday, did you all have fun?

Besides this you could use bots and extensions to make your stream more interactive.
